IdTech, POS-X and many other manufacturers provide OPOS drivers to simplify magnetic card reader installation & setup. The following procedure describes the initial setup of an IDTech USB HID card reader, but the procedure is virtually identical for all card readers that use manufacturer provided OPOS drivers. Note that the POS-X MSR can also be configured using the following procedure.
Before continuing, visit the drivers and utilities downloads page at http://www.amigopos.com to download the card reader configuration utility, OPOS drivers and the OPOS test application.

Many card readers can be configured to operate in either HID or KBW (keyboard wedge) mode. In this example, HID mode is used because no advanced configuration is required for Amigo Pos to use the card reader (unlike keyboard wedge type card readers, carriage returns or other special formatting does not affect the data sent to Amigo Pos) In addition, the use of HID card readers does not interfere with the proper operation of keyboard wedge barcode scanners. Using the card reader configuration utility, review the card reader's interface settings and select HID Data Format, as shown below. Click the Send to MSR button to update the card reader and allow a few seconds for the utility to update the card reader's firmware.
After installing the OPOS drivers, the OPOS test application and rebooting, connect the card reader to the PC and start the OPOS test application. Select USB HID: IDTECH_MMII_USBHID from the drop-down list and click the Open button to connect to the card reader. Click the Claim button to gain exclusive access to the card reader and check the box next to DeviceEnabled under the Control tab to enable the test application to receive data from the reader, as shown below.
